The meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 19th Spirit of Fire International Debut Film Festival was held via video conference.

It was chaired by Natalia Komarova, the Governor of Ugra. The President of the Debut Film Festival Sergey Solovyov, the Vice-President of the Festival and screenwriter Maria Zvereva, the Chairman of the Selection Committee and film critic Boris Nelepo, as well as the heads of relevant departments and institutions of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra discussed the preparations, the main competitive and special programmes, the contest of film projects among the countries of the Arctic Council.

Natalia Komarova noted that she is ready to support Sergey Solovyov's proposal to postpone the Festival from the end of February to March 11-16. According to Sergey Solovyov, during this period, the chances of foreign guests arriving for the event increase.

Yana Maltseva, Acting Director of the Ugra-Classic concert and theatre centre, reported that preparations are well underway for the Spirit of Fire festival. The Organizing Committee prepares all programmes in two formats: including audience participation and online. "Since November 6, 2020, applications for the main competition programme have been accepted. Applications for the microfilm contest are received from Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Krasnodar," Yana Maltseva noted.

She also recalled that 2021 will mark a significant historical event – the 60th anniversary of the first human spaceflight. Children's creative laboratory "Route to Cinema" will support this direction of the festival programme. Young filmmakers will learn the features and methods of creating visual and special effects in films, and the main theme of the programme will be "2021: A Space Odyssey".

The Festival will include an exhibition of the Mosfilm film company dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Pavel Lebeshev, iconic Soviet cinematographer. The prize named after Pavel Lebeshev "For the best camera work" is awarded by the cinematographers jury of the Spirit of Fire.

In turn, Maria Zvereva suggested expanding the festival programme: "Now, "Ivan the Terrible" film is on central television. The producers and the TV channel suggested that we organize a costume exhibition within the Spirit of Fire festival, which has just been successfully held in Moscow. The costumes are very spectacular; they were shown by models."

The Organizing Committee paid great attention to the discussion and selection of technical platforms for showing films online.
